My name is Nikki; I’m a rural rookie and the future Mrs. B! Not too long ago, I packed my purse dog into my drop-top, and set out to join the love of my life in his teeny, tiny hometown in rural Pennsylvania.
When I arrived, I foolishly believed that the summer weekends spent in the country as a child had prepared me for full-time country living, despite my having actually been raised on a cul-de-sac in a sub-division in the suburbs. As it turns out, I may have misjudged my own ability to assimilate to the inconveniences of being so far away from…everything.
I’m doing my best to take advantage of all that my new world has to offer, but, as with anything new and unfamiliar, there have been a few (sometimes hilarious, often embarrassing) bumps in the road. I may be a solid 45 minutes from a decent grocery store (a fact that sends me into near-weekly hissy fits), but I’ve gained far more than I’ve given up.
I’ve got a great man, a few grape vines, a horse of my very own and plenty of space for my small dog and her new canine brother to frolic like the nuts that they are. I’m spending time learning how to do things I love – making wine, boating, cooking, and caring for an animal who doesn’t fit in my purse. It has been, and continues to be, an adventure filled with love, laughter, lots of learning, and more than a little wine.
Hopefully, I’ll be able to share a little of what I’ve learned along the way, or at the very least, provide a few entertaining stories about a clumsy blonde girl who invaded the simple country life of a very, very patient boy.
